Bill Bunten

Danielle Bunten Berry’s brother and her first collaborator — co-designer and primary playtester of Cartels & Cutthroats.

Bill Bunten, an MBA, is credited alongside his sister on Strategic Simulations’ Cartels & Cutthroats (1981) — one of the earliest computer business simulations — where he was co-designer and the primary playtester. SSI’s own catalog collapsed the credit to “Dan Bunten” alone; later scholarship restores his role.

He went on to be part of Ozark Softscape, the Little Rock studio behind M.U.L.E. and The Seven Cities of Gold, contributing to design and the studio’s famously exhaustive playtesting. Beyond that the public record is thin — so we credit the collaboration we can document and leave the rest open.

📚 Documentation on Bill Bunten is limited; we record the collaborations we can source — notably his co-design credit on Cartels & Cutthroats, which SSI under-credited at the time — and flag the rest as unknown rather than invent it. Corrections welcome.
